Pay As You Go – Don’t Read it’s none sense!
“Yes sir you average around 8 minutes a month on the phone so you probably would be best with a pay as you go SIM” The O2 customer service representative said to me when I called to say my £50 per month contract had come to an end.
The big switch over to pay-as-you-go was today and I’m now the proud owner of a 12p per text SIM card. As Lee Long Life said to me “no more texts that just say ‘sweet’ bro, you’ll need to get your money’s worth now” I guess that’s true but a man who spends an average 8 minutes a month on the phone doesn’t text a lot either so I think the bank account can just about handle that much.
Now I’m sort of guessing that some people who know me and see me posting on Facebook and Twitter continuously must be thinking “this guy is always on his phone it’ll cost him a fortune” and you’d be right but for some reason I hate using phones it’s the one technical advancement I wished didn’t particularly exist. Now don’t get me wrong of course mobiles are great but are they actually great as phones? Mine gets constant use on Facebook/Skype/Twitter and other apps, okay games, and if I travel by train the app for which platform to stand on is first class! ha! See what I did there? (rubbish)
So why do i hate texting and speaking on the phone but don’t mind telling the world of social media exactly where I’m drinking and what i’m drinking?
I’m sure this can be answered by some psychiatrist or other intellectual who’s asked 100 people the same question then come up with some crazy percentage as to what the hell the world is thinking in all of these matters.
For me I guess I just don’t like to be tied down, if you send a direct message you are waiting for a reply and if you get a direct message or call you feel duty bound to answer it, aren’t you? I think maybe this is the none conformist in me, I simply seem to think that the person at the other end expects me to do something and when someone expects me to do something I generally don’t do it. When I send out a status message on Twitter/Facebook I’m just saying here you go all, here’s what I’m up to write a comment if you want to and the same is to be said for other people who write a status, I can handle that pressure as they don’t expect a response from me.
So 8 minutes a month and probably 20 texts a month it is or will that go up now just because of pay as you go? Will I all of a sudden start using my phone more just because I know i have to watch it? As I never used it when I had unlimited use because for some reason I thought that was sticking it to the company that were taking £50+ off me every month. Or will I start getting more texts and calls? Who knows and who cares.
I have to say I just started writing this post not knowing where it would go or what it would achieve and at the end of it I’m still wondering the same damn thing!
I didn’t tell anybody this would make sense did I?
